Upon reflection of the response from the nation regarding Prof. Thomas Walker of Iowa State University’s infamous Letter to the Editor of the Iowa State Daily, we at Iowa Troop Pantry have become even more determined to carry out our mission.
Our job is to send high-quality, well-organized care packages to deployed service members. We do this through community involvement and partnerships with companies and organizations. We depend on donations of supplies and funds in order to send these care packages.
Iowa Troop Pantry also needs enrollees, service members who are deployed (or are scheduled to be deployed) in which to send care packages. Enrollment in the Iowa Troop Pantry is done by contacting us at firstname.lastname@example.org or 319-430-8118. Family members, friends, co-workers, and the service member themselves may enroll in the program at no cost.
We send care packages continually until the service member returns stateside. Iowa Troop Pantry also takes specific requests from enrollees or the unit of an enrolled service member. We are able to accommodate most requests.
Our most current request is from a Marine group of 10 guys who are in need of: hot sauce (plastic bottles only, please) – the hotter and more exotic the better, unscented baby wipes – they are available by the case at Wal-Mart for $12-14/case, and underwear and long-johns of any size.

Thank you to all of our outstanding volunteers and we look forward to sending many more care packages to our deployed service members -- no matter what Thomas Walker, or any naysayer thinks about it.
