Though we haven't posted in a while, we are still in full swing here at Iowa Troop Pantry. We sent out six boxes two weeks ago and one has already reached Afghanistan. This particular box contained Iowa State gear and the service member's mother reports that it has all been displayed proudly in his living quarters. She also reports that he was almost out of body wash and that we have saved him and his battle buddies from some very stinky days. We are glad to help.
As far as other updates and events, we will be having a care package packing event for the residents of Melrose Meadows in Iowa City on Tuesday, October 5th. They have raised over $1,100 in monetary donations and many supplies in less than two months! We look to pack between 30 and 50 boxes during this particular event. We will have high school students from Highland High School joining them for some inter-generational bonding.
We are looking for fundraising opportunities to raise money to pack more care packages before the November holiday cut-off date. Please contact us if you have any ideas! Our ears are open.
Of course, if you know of anybody in the Iowa National Guard or who is currently on active duty -- let us know, we want to send them care packages and letters.
As always, thank you for your support and dedication to this project. Without the public, we would never be able to support our troops.
